Arce to give named professor lecture
Arces research interests include nonlinear signal processing, wireless communications, statistical signal processing, electronic imaging and display, bioelectronics, image processing, multimedia security and communications. He specializes in the development and analysis of algorithms for signals and processes, including digital images and Internet traffic. A visiting professor two times at the Tampere University of Technology, Finland, Arce has led many signal processing and communications research programs for the U.S. Army Research Laboratories (ARL) under the ARL Federated Laboratory Consortia program in Telecommunications and Information Distribution and more recently under the ARL Collaborative Technical Alliance in Communications and Networks. A fellow of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers, Arce is a founding member of the Nonlinear Signal Processing Board. He has been a fellow of UDs Center for Advanced Studies and received the DuPont Education Award in 1998, 1999 and 2002. He has written extensively in his field, and is author or coauthor of more than 300 articles and three books, Nonlinear Signal Processing, Modern Digital Halftoning and Nonlinear Signal and Image Processing. Arce received his bachelors degree from the University of Arkansas and his masters and doctoral degrees in electrical engineering from Purdue University and joined the UD faculty in 1982. The lecture is open to the public, but it is requested that those planning to attend call 831-2401 or e-mail [maccari@udel.edu].
