Alpha Phi thanks UD for house renovation

2:45 p.m., Oct. 21, 2003--Alpha Phi sorority hosted a light dinner, Thursday, Oct. 2, for members of the University community who helped to renovate their house. UD staff worked throughout the summer to make improvements on the house, located at 158 South College Ave., which houses 48 of the 86 members of the sorority.

The sorority members invited UD President David Roselle, Matt Lenno, director of Greek Life, all of their advisers, their house corporation board, alumni and those who made the improvements to the house to see the results of the renovation. Sorority sisters also hung a banner from their house to publicly thank all those who worked on the improvements.

The improvements include:

  • Ethernet installation in each room;
  • Painting of the entire interior;
  • Recarpeting and retiling of the basement floor;
  • A power-wash of the front of the house;
  • Installation of new washers and dryers;
  • Security screens added to all first-floor and basement windows;
  • Replacement of lights in the house;
  • New locks and doors for all rooms in the house;
  • Installation of ceiling fans in all common rooms and the basement;
  • Ceiling tile replacement;
  • Removal of trees and tree stumps from behind the house; and
  • Replacement of basement pipes to improve drainage flows.

Alpha Phi’s House Corporation Board worked with the University to ensure all of these renovations were completed before the sorority members moved in this fall.

"The changes have been monumental both in number and effectiveness,” Ariel Witzenberger, president of Alpha Phi said. “We have all noticed the many additions and enjoy them on a daily basis. Thanks to the University, our lives are a little easier."
