Al-Jazeera editor speaks at UD April 5 12:02 p.m., March 22, 2004--Yasser Thabet, broadcast editor of Al-Jazeera television, the most popular satellite news channel in the Middle East, will give a lecture titled, Images, News and Al-Jazeera, at 7 p.m., Monday, April 5, in Multipurpose Room B at Trabant University Center. The lecture is free and open to the public. Too often in the United States, we view Al-Jazeera through its coverage of the conflicts in the Middle East, Danilo Yanich, associate professor in urban affairs and public policy, said. But Al-Jazeera has addressed many social issues in the Arab worldlike poverty and the role of womenthat have never been examined by any media institution in the Arab world. Thabet also will meet with students and groups on campus during his visit from March 29-April 9. The visit is sponsored by UDs Center for International Studys visiting scholars program, the Center for Community Research and Service, the School of Urban Affairs and Public Policy and the College of Human Services, Education and Public Policy.
