Ag Day, plant sale set April 24

1:05 p.m., March 31, 2004--Educational exhibits, children’s games and activities, music and lots of good food all are on the agenda for “Discover Our World,” UD’s 29th annual Ag Day slated for 10 a.m.-4 p.m., Saturday, April 24, on the grounds of Townsend Hall.

Ag Day is a free, family event that showcases modern agriculture and natural resources. Participants can learn how to attract backyard birds, stock up on bedding plants, see farm animals and enjoy live music by Mental Notes, Tater-Patch and other local performers. A wide range of food will be available, including roast pork, barbecue chicken, hand-dipped ice cream and cotton candy. More than 50 student and community organizations will inform and entertain with interactive displays and exhibits.

Organized by the Ag Day Teamwork Class, Ag Day promotes UD’s College of Agriculture and Natural Resources and raises funds for student clubs, Cooperative Extension’s 4-H clubs, Master Gardeners and related organizations.

In conjunction with Ag Day, the annual University of Delaware Botanical Gardens’ (UDBG) plant sale will be held near the Fischer Greenhouse from 9:30 a.m.-4 p.m. The sale specializes in perennial flowers, shrubs and trees. This year’s featured plants include several varieties of Stryax, a shrub that is more commonly known as snowbell.

Ag Day and UDBG’s plant sale are free and open to the public, with plenty of free parking available in the UD athletic complex lots on South College Avenue. For more information on Ag Day, call 831-2508 or email [kra@udel.edu]. For plant sale information, call 831-2531 or go to [http://ag.udel.edu/udbg].
