IT Professionals Corner adds 'Did you know?'

1:50 p.m., Aug. 18, 2003--IT Professionals Corner, a virtual information center for the army of IT support staff, or Campus IT Associates (CITAs), who toil to keep the University’s information systems functioning, has added a “Did you know?” component.

Kathy Beardsley, manager of the IT Help Center, said, “‘Did you know’ gives CITAs up to the minute information about events on and off campus that affect the units they support.”

Docked in cyber space at [www.udel.edu/help/itprof.html], the web site is a convenience store of links to sites that supplies CITAs and others information technology, information they need to do their jobs. There’s a list with the name, phone number and department of all other CITAs on campus, an online orientation, updated and new web sites, where to download firewalls, how to update the Windows operating system, new student and faculty checklists and a calendar of pertinent meetings.

Unlike the nuts and bolts information now listed, “Did you know?” directs CITAs to locations that pertain to current issues affecting software. For example, the first “Did you know?” warns that there are still sites on campus that could be invaded by hackers, advises CITAs to check a list of vulnerable machines that are on their subnet, and links to articles that tell them about security updates and how to clean up after a DCOM hack.
