UD provides training for teachers in hospitality field 2:02 p.m., June 25, 2004--UDs Department of Hotel, Restaurant and Institutional Management (HRIM) was selected by the American Hotel and Lodging Association to teach a course on campus from June 21-25 to 21 high school teachers from Oregon to Florida who want to become Certified Hospitality Instructors. Brian Miller, assistant professor, coordinated the course. The teacher/students learn about several phases of the hospitality industry including managing the front desk, housekeeping, security issues, property engineering and maintenance, guest services and purchasing/inventory control, with lectures, job shadowing and on-site visits to the Dover Downs Hotel and Sheraton Hotel in Dover and the Hotel du Pont in Wilmington. They also had firsthand restaurant experience, dining at the Dover hotels, the Hotel du Pont, the Deer Park and on campus at Vita Nova and the Blue & Gold Club.
