Course added for Higher Education Teaching Certification Program

9:50 a.m., Nov. 4, 2003--Beginning with Winter Session 2004, the Center for Teaching Effectiveness is offering an academic job search course as part of the Higher Education Teaching Certification (HETC) program for graduate students who intend to teach at the college level.

Students interested in HETC apply for admission directly to the Center for Teaching Effectiveness. The application and enrollment form for Winter Session 2004 is available at [www.udel.edu/cte/certificate.html]. The deadline for application and registration for Winter Session is Friday, Nov. 14.

HETC is designed to enhance graduate student teaching effectiveness and to provide systematic preparation for all aspects of a career in academia. It focuses on teaching as scholarly work.

The no-credit, optional program is open to all TAs who intend to become faculty. The program is offered in an online environment through WebCT supplemented by half-day seminars.

To receive teaching certification, graduate students must complete coursework in learning, pedagogy, faculty roles and academic job search and must be observed teaching and document their teaching effectiveness via a portfolio. Certification is included in the participant's official transcript.

For more information and description of program features refer to [www.udel.edu/cte/certificate.html]. Graduate students interested in the program can contact Gabriele Bauer, program coordinator, via e-mail at [gabriele@udel.edu] or by phone at 831-2027.
