Free band concert set May 25

11:20 a.m., May 18, 2004--The Academy Band from UD’s Academy of Lifelong Learning will debut “The American Raliroader,” a new piece by composer Henry Gass, in a 7 p.m. concert, Tuesday, May 25, at the Loudis Recital Hall in the Amy E. DuPont Music Building.

Directed by Joe Lofland, conductor of the 64-member band, the concert also will include marches, show tunes and up-tempo concert music.

Gass, a former attorney and current member of the Academy of Lifelong Learning, formerly served as head arranger for the Air Force Band. “The American Raliroader” was inspired by his love of old railroad songs.

The free concert is sponsored by the Academy of Lifelong Learning and is open to the public. For more information, call Martha Newlon at 998-4234 or Barbara Roewe at 764-7483.
