Police investigate two robberies of students

10:51 p.m., March 7, 2004--Newark Police are investigating two unrelated robberies of UD students that occurred late Friday and early Saturday, March 5-6.

The first incident occurred at approximately 11:05 p.m., March 5. A 20-year-old UD student was at a party in the unit block of Kershaw Street when he became involved in an altercation with four men. During the incident, one of the men jerked a gold chain from the student’s neck. The suspects then left the party and fled in an unknown direction. The student reported the incident to officers a short time later.

The second incident took place at approximately 3:14 a.m., March 6. A 21-year-old UD student was walking on Duke Street when he was approached by two men, who struck him on the head, knocking him to the ground. The suspects took an undisclosed amount of cash from the student before fleeing on foot. The student was taken to the Christiana Emergency Center for treatment of a contusion and minor lacerations.

Anyone with information on either incident should contact the Newark Police Department at 366-7110 or Delaware Crime Stoppers at 1-800-TIP-3333.
