1:35 p.m., Feb. 19, 2003--West Chester (Pa.) University announced Feb. 14 that it has selected Bill Zwann, a former quarterback for the University of Delaware, as head coach of its football team.
Zwann has spent six years as head coach at NCAA Division III Widener University in Chester, Pa., and in 2002 led the team to its third consecutive Middle Atlantic Conference championship. At Widener, he compiled a record of 54-14.
Zwaan was a standout quarterback at the University of Delaware and led the Blue Hens to the 1974 NCAA Division II national championship game, a 54-14 loss to Central Michigan University. He was a three-year letter winner for the Hens from 1973-75.
He will return to Tubby Raymond Field at Delaware Stadium to face the Hens on Sept. 20.
It isnt often you get an opportunity to hire a coach like Bill Zwaan, WCU President Madeleine Wing Adler said. His outstanding credentials, his reputation for success in the classroom and in the athletic arena, and his ties to the local community are a perfect fit for Golden Ram football.
