11:05 a.m., April 28, 2003--The University of Delaware track and field teams were spread out on Saturday afternoon, with members competing at the venerable Penn Relays in Philadelphia, the Millersville Metrics and the Lions Invitational Track and Field Meet at the College of New Jersey.
The UD track teams will host the second Delaware Invitational meet of the season on Saturday, May 3.
At the P enn Relays on Friday, the women's 4 x 200-meter relay team of Elizabeth Russel, Daniella Price, Tyechia Smith and Kristin Frustillo established a new school record with a time of 1:43.20, breaking the previous record of 1:45.64, to place fifth in their heat.
The women also set a school record in the sprint medley relay, as Rachel Schultz, Price, Smith and Erin Gemmill finished 24th with a time of 4:04.37. The old record was 4:06.61.
In men's action at the Penn Relays on Friday, the men's 4 x 100-meter relay team finished ninth in its heat with a time of 43.78. In the 4 x 200-meter relay, UDs team posted a sixth place finish with a time of 1:30.44 in its heat and the 4 x 400-meter relay team finished seventh with a time of 3:20.85.
At the 25th anniversary Millersville Metrics, held at Franklin and Marshall College in Pennsylvania, Jerome Holder posted a first-place finish for the men in the 110-meter hurdles with a time of 14.8 and Patrick Boettcher finished first in the 800 meters with a time of 1:53.80.
Other top finishers included Mike Sadowsky in the 5000 meters (fourth, 15:24.50), Dennis Spence in the long jump (fifth, 20 feet), and Holder (sixth, 57.7) and Ryan McGlensey (seventh, 57.9) in the 400-meter hurdles.
On the women's side at Millersville, Lissy Dean finished in first place in the triple jump with a mark of 35 feet, 7 1/4 inches. She also finished third in the long jump (16 feet) and fifth in the 400-meter hurdles (68.4).
Other top finishers for Delaware included Laura Dietrich in the triple jump (fourth, 33 feet, 2 1/2 inches), Kim Rubin in the 400-meter hurdles (sixth, 69.9) and the 100-meter hurdles (ninth, 17.3), and Ashley Olsen in the 3000 meters (10th, 11:04.7).
Mike Yost posted a second-place finish at the Lion's Invitational in the men's hammer throw preliminaries with a mark of 50.51 meters, while Joe Patson finished sixth in the event with a throw of 40.51 meters. Yost also finished ninth in the discus preliminaries with a throw of 41.18.
On the women's side, Jess Urbonas finished second in the women's javelin preliminaries with a mark of 34.58 meters while Lauren Palmer came in ninth place in the women's hammer throw with a throw of 36.12 meters.
