UD women set four records at Penn State Open |

10:45 a.m., Feb. 4, 2003-- The University of Delaware women set four school records and Roger Brown led the Blue Hen men with a sixth-place finish in the 60 meters to highlight action at the Penn State National Open held Jan. 31-Feb. 1 at the Horace Ashenfelter Indoor Track.

For UD, freshman Daniella Price broke her own school record (8.03) in the 60 meters by placing 31st in a time of 7.96; junior Tyechia Smith set a new mark in the 400 meters by placing 26th in a time of 58.81; senior Erin Gemmill established a new UD mark in the 800 meters with a time of 2:15.84 in placing 14th, and the 4x400 meter relay team of Kristin Frustillo, Smith, Rachel Schultz and Gemmill placed 12th with a school record time of 3:55.99.
The old UD marks were 59.29 by Bridget Bicking in the 400 meters in 1988, 2:16.33 by Sarah Cowles in the 800 meters in 1994 and 4:01.60 by the 4 x 400 meter relay team of Denise Pechillo, Carmen Matteis, Dionne Jones and Lynn Degelmann in 1992.
Also for the UD women, Casey Bennett was 16th in the pole vault (11 1/4); Frustillo placed 38th in the 60 meters (8.06) and 47th in the 200 meters (26.44); Smith placed 34th in the 200 meters (25.85); Schultz placed 47th in the 400 meters (59.96); and Elizabeth Russell (Red Bank Regional/Little Silver, NJ) placed 44th in the 60 meter hurdles (9.89).
Brown had the best finish of the meet for the UD men as he advanced to the finals of the 60 meters and placed sixth with a time of 6.99. He also placed 19th in the 200 meters in 22.29.
Also for the Blue Hens, Jon DiNozzi was 10th in the pole vault (15-3), John Morgan was 18th in the 1,000 meters (2:29.69), Mike Sadowsky was 19th in the 5,000 meters (15:00.09) and the 4x400 meter relay team was 20th in 3:22.71.
Also, Matt Harrell was 27th in the 5,000 meters (15:08.86); Sidney Haugabrook was 17th in the 60 meters (7.03) and 55th in the 200 meters (23.17); Jerome Holder was 33rd in the 60 meter hurdles (8.66); Germaine Bennett was 35th in the 60 meters (7.18); Nate Irvin was 51st in the 60 meters (7.35) and 56th in the 200 meters (23.33); Jim DelGrosso was 54th in the 400 meters (51.21); Mondoe Davis was 54th in the 60 meters (7.35); Dave Sherman was 55th in the 200 meters; Brandon Nesbitt was 55th in the 400 meters (51.23); Phil Smiley was 56th in the 400 meters (51.23); and Jay Pava was 61st in the 400 meters (51.42).
Both Delaware teams will compete in the Navy Invitational on Saturday, Feb. 8, in Annapolis, Md.
