Delaware tennis teams fall to Webber |

11:40 a.m., April 3, 2003--Host Webber International University swept the University of Delaware men's and women's tennis teams in action Wednesday afternoon, April 2, at Babson Park, Fla.

The Webber men, ranked sixth nationally in the most recent National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) poll, won five singles matches on the way to an 8-1 victory over the Blue Hen men.
The Delaware women dropped a tough 5-4 decision to the hosts, who are ranked 11th nationally in the NAIA poll.
The Delaware women had their two-match win streak snapped to fall to 4-7 while the Delaware men also had a two-match win streak ended to even their record at 9-9.
The match was the Florida debut for the UD men, who will take on Stetson on Thursday, April 3. The Delaware women will take on Embry-Riddle Thursday in the final matches of the week for the Hens during their annual spring trip to Florida.
In women's action against Webber International, the two teams split the six singles matches with Delaware getting victories from Jessica Wilkes at No. 1 singles, from Jen Lamberton at No. 3 and from Julia Shapiro at No. 6. Wilkes improved to 9-5 on the season and to 45-29 for her career, moving her into sole possession of seventh place on the all-time UD singles win list.
Delaware picked up its only victory in
doubles at the No. 1 spot where Wilkes and Beth Principe teamed for an 8-4 win.
The Delaware men could manage just one win on the afternoon as Dustin Lewis picked up a victory at No. 4 singles when Webber's Per Ekvall retired with Lewis leading 3-0 in the second set. Lewis improved to 8-11 on the season with his third straight singles victory.
The Hens' Josh Ditman suffered his first loss of the season at No. 6 singles.
