11:25 a.m., March 17, 2003--The University of Delaware men's tennis team posted a 5-2 victory while the women dropped a 7-0 decision to earn a split with Bucknell University in non-league action Sunday afternoon, March 16.
The next match for the men will at 2:45 p.m., Wednesday, March 19, at St. Josephs University, followed by a home match against George Mason University at 1 p.m., Saturday, March 22.
The women will play George Mason at home at 1 p.m., Saturday, March 22, then will host West Chester University at 3 p.m., Wednesday, March 26.
On Sunday, the Delaware men posted a 5-2 victory at the Delaware Field House Courts, getting singles wins from Jon Tully, Sanjay Khindri, Adam Liebman and Josh Ditman and posting wins in two of the three doubles matches. The Blue Hens snapped a two-match losing streak to improve to 7-7 while Bucknell lost its second straight to fall to 5-10.
On the women's side, Bucknell posted wins in all six singles and all three doubles matches to remain undefeated on the season at 7-0. The Blue Hen women fell to 2-6 with their fourth straight setback.
Tully posted a 6-3, 7-5 win over Nick Denefrio at the No. 1 singles spot and then teamed with Robert Wirth for an 8-2 win over Denefrio and Gerald DiChiara at the No. 1 doubles position.
Khindri downed Todd Jacobs 1-6, 6-3, 7-5 at No. 2 singles. Delaware also received wins in singles from Liebman, who downed DiChiara 3-6, 6-2, 7-6 at No. 5, and from Ditman, who was a 6-3, 6-4 winner over Aaron Saperstein at No. 6.
Ditman won his team-high eighth match of the season in singles to improve to 8-2, including a 5-0 mark at the No. 6 spot.
Delaware picked up its other victory at No. 3 doubles where Ari Zweig and Patrick Seitz won an 8-2 verdict over the Bisons' Saperstein and Menezes.
In the women's match, Bucknell got straight set victories from Nada Curcic at No. 1, Jill Wurzburg at No. 3, Tanya Sichko at No. 4, and Rheanna Gaskin at No. 5. Delaware's Christine Knox lost a tough battle 4-6, 6-3, 0-6 to Bucknell's Ronnie Brown at the No. 2 spot while Katie Heath dropped a close 3-6, 6-4, 0-6 verdict with Sam Berthod at No. 6.
