Van Deusen earned 458.25 points to easily outdistance runner-up Kara Boate of Drexel University (417.75).

Van Deusen, the 2002 CAA Diver of the Year, captured the conference one-meter title and was second in the three-meter event last season and posted two top 10 finishes at the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) regionals.

She moved on to the NCAA championships at the University of Texas in both events, becoming the first UD swimmer or diver to compete at the NCAA championships in school history.

The women's three-meter competition was the only event contested on the first night of the championships Wednesday. The second day of the CAA championships will get under way at 10 a.m. with preliminaries Thursday morning followed by the finals at 6 p.m. The four-day meet will continue until Saturday evening.

Host George Mason took the first day team lead with 73 points as five Patriot divers placed in the top 10, led by Ashley Craw in third place.

George Mason's Liz Replogle was fourth with 392.75 points followed by teammates Mary Campioli in fifth (386.80), Jamie Downing in sixth (383.05) and Liz Gabriel in seventh (380.45).
