11:20 a.m., Jan. 18, 2003--Tiffany Scott and Philip Dulebohn, who train at the University of Delaware, took first place in the pairs competition Friday, Jan. 17, at the 2003 State Farm U.S. Figure Skating Championships in Dallas.
Scott and Dulebohn, who are coached at UD by Karl Kurtz, will now represent the United States at the World Championships and the Four Continent Championships.
Other skaters from UD competing in the pairs competition included Jennifer Don and Jonathon Hunt, who took sixth place; and Laura Handy and Jeremy Allen, seventh place.
Skaters who train at UD made a strong showing in other competitions as well.
UDs Kimberly Meissner won gold in the novice ladies competition.
In championship dance final standings, UD skaters Christie Moxley and Aleksandre Kirsanov placed sixth; and Kendra Goodwin and Chris Obzanksy placed eighth.
UDs Shaun Rogers placed 16th in the mens competition. Johnny Weir, who placed second after the short program, strained his knee during the free skate program and withdrew.
Andrea Varraux and David Pelletier were seventh in junior pairs, and Patrick Connelly and Stephanie Ellis finished in eighth place in junior dance. In novice dance, Katherine Copely and Duke Wensel took seventh place.
