11:40 a.m., May 7, 2003--University of Delaware alumna Liza Shoemaker, a standout womens lacrosse player for the Fightin Blue Hens, has been named the America East Conference Coach of the Year for her work as head coach of the Boston University womens lacrosse team.

Shoemaker, who graduated from UD in 1998 with a degree in international relations and minor in religious studies, was a four- year starter at midfield for the Blue Hens and led the team to two America East Conference titles.
She was a three-time Brine/Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association All-American and three-time All-America East Conference selection, and was named the 1997 America East Player of the Year.
Also, Shoemaker was named UDs outstanding female athlete as a senior.
This season, her second as head coach at Boston University, Shoemaker guided the Terriers to a record of 14-4 and was undefeated at 5-0 in America East.
The team, which is ranked No. 20 nationally, has earned a spot in the NCAA tournament, where it will face No. 7 Dartmouth University in a first round game on Thursday, May 8.
