Second varsity eights wins Georgetown race
 

12:55 p.m., March 31, 2003--The University of Delaware women's rowing team captured one first-place finish and was second in another race in a quad meet held Saturday morning, March 29, with the University of Virginia, University of North Carolina and host Georgetown University.

Delaware's second varsity heavyweight eights team of Nicole Lombardi, Elizabeth Harris, Elizabeth McInturff, Jess Colpo, Dawn Hussnatter, Andrea Placke, Alison Conway, Janice Brown and Elizabeth McGarry won its race with a time of 6:54.6, edging Georgetown (6:58.3) and Delaware's lightweight eights team (7:04.7).

The Delaware lightweight eights team consisted of Carolyn Serey, Denise Burke, Dana Lohr, Laura Muto, Emily McElwain, Lyra Sawzin, Tory Yanakos, Stefanie Lazorick and Susan Carbine.

Delaware picked up a second-place finish in the varsity eights race as the team of Alli Garwood, Meg Batykefer, Lissa Kutz, Kylie Campbell, Betsy Ferry, Danah O'Connor, Leanna Ferrand, Lisa Hardy and Laura McDonald rowed to a time of 7:00.9. Georgetown won with a time of 6:56.1 while North Carolina was third in 7:02.7.

The Hens picked up a third-place finish in the second novice eights race with a time of 7:42.2. Virginia won in 7:02.1 while Georgetown was second in 7:02.5. Delaware's team consisted of Jamie Hartnett, Courtney Maggiulli, Jessica Kostick, Jamie Schoenewald, Cathy Savarese, Stephanie Miller, Leah Conway, Nicole Neidig and Jen Vatimo.

In the first novice eights race, Delaware was third in a time of 6:34.6. Virginia won in 6:01.4 followed by North Carolina, Delaware and Georgetown, in 6:36.7. Delaware's team consisted of Sarah Mazurkevich, Jenna Darrenkamp, Leslie Forsyth, Katherine Reiner, Val Schuster, Cindy Dudzinski, Kate Siani, Lane Kohl and Becca Bauer.

The Hens also were fourth in the varsity fours as the team of Kat Campagnini, Nicole Ferrari, Jen Suminski, Maureen Gillen and Liz Florin posted a time of 7:58.4. Virginia won with a time of 7:25.1, Georgetown A was second in 7:42.8 and Georgetown B was third in 7:54.6.

Delaware is next scheduled to compete Tuesday, April 1, at the University of Central Florida.
