Project Search celebrates 25 successful years

1:45 p.m., March 26, 2003--Project Search, a career fair for future teachers and others in education, celebrated its 25th year last week and overall, has been getting bigger and better each year, according to Cindy Holland, assistant director of career services.

Spanish education major Erin Blackson, AS 2003, meets Dr. Patrick Savini and Michele Perry from Sussex Tech in Georgetown.

Held March 19 in the Bob Carpenter Center, Project Search attracted representatives from more than 145 school districts and organizations and more than 700 candidates, Holland said. The fair gives future teachers and educators a chance to meet recruiters from school districts in Delaware, the Mid-Atlantic region and from as far away as Georgia, North Carolina and California.

On March 20, Teach in Delaware, a follow-up program with 16 Delaware public school districts, was held in the Trabant University Center for further interviews.

There was an increase in the number of interviews this year, Holland said, with some students talking to as many as 15 or more recruiters. While some students receive on-the-spot offers, most receive call-back invitations for on-site visits.

“We received positive feedback on the organization and planning that went into the fair, and the recruiters were impressed with how well prepared students were for the interviews. Our students are much in demand because of the education and training they receive at UD,” Holland said.

The event is sponsored by UD’s MBNA Career Services Center and the Delaware Center for Teacher Education.
