Botanical Gardens' plant sale preview set March 26

9:55 a.m., March 24, 2003--Blueberry plants are known by many names—including huckleberry, gooseberry, bilberry and lingonberry—and they range in size from groundcover to small trees. The blueberry’s versatility is one reason it will be featured at the University of Delaware Botanic Gardens (UDBG) Perennial Plant Sale, slated for Saturday, April 26.

Learn more about blueberries and other plants at a plant sale preview presentation from 7-9 p.m., Wednesday, March 26, at the Girl Scouts of Chesapeake Bay Council Building on South College Avenue. John Frett, professor of horticulture and UDBG director, will give a lecture highlighting the featured plants and review their cultivation requirements.

Perennials, from trees to flowering plants, will be available at the April sale. For those who want to preorder, a list of sale plants and an order form are provided on the UDGB web at [http://ag.udel.edu/udbg]. Orders will be processed in the order received and can be picked up from 2-8 p.m., Friday, April 25.

Plant sale proceeds fund UD student horticultural internships, as well as UDBG horticultural education and research programs.
