Jan. 30, 2003—Gail Elizabeth Evans, 53, of Lake Worth, Fla., died Jan. 25. A 1971 graduate of the University of Delaware, Evans played on the first UD women’s basketball team.

She taught middle school physical education in Gurnee, Ill., from 1973-85. Despite a spinal cord disease that afflicted her in 1977, she continued to be active in sports.

Funeral services will be at 3 p.m., Sat., Feb. 1, in the Hardesty Chapel of Parsell Funeral Homes & Crematorium, 202 Laws St., Bridgeville, where friends may call after 2 p.m.

A memorial service will be held Sunday, Feb. 16, on Lake Worth Beach, Fla.

In lieu of flowers, contributions in her memory may be made to the University of Delaware’s Women’s Basketball Program, Office of Development, Academy Street., Newark, DE 19714 or to Special Olympics, 2728 Lake Worth Rd., Lake Worth, FL 33461.
