11:25 a.m., Jan. 23, 2003--The University of Delaware Early Learning Center is holding its inaugural symposium Thursday and Friday, Jan. 23-24, at the Trabant University Center.
The symposium is on the topic Brain, Behavior and Prevention: The Development of Self-Regulatory Capabilities, with lectures scheduled throughout the day Thursday and faculty workshops planned Friday.
Thursday speakers are:
Bruce F. Pennington, University of Denver, Different Developmental Pathways to Executive Dysfunction, 9 a.m.;
Monica Luciana, University of Minnesota, The Development of Prefontally Mediated Cognitive Functions in Children, 11 a.m.;
Mark T. Greenberg, Center on Prevention Research, Pennsylvania State University, What Do the Frontal Lobes Have to Do With It? School-Based Prevention of Emotional Disorders, 1:30 p.m.; and
Kathryn E. Barnard, University of Washington, Regulation of Infant Behavior Within the Parent-Child Relationship, 3:30 p.m.
On Friday, the speakers will lead faculty work groups.
The mission of the Early Learning Center is to provide state-of-the-art, evidence-based, educational, prevention and intervention services to the children and families of Delaware, to conduct systematic translational research in prevention and intervention and to provide training to both undergraduate and graduate students through teaching, clinical and research experiences.
