Delaware's DiNozzi earns All-East honors

10:10 a.m., May 19, 2003--The University of Delaware’s Jon DiNozzi earned All-East honors by placing tied for sixth in the pole vault at the Intercollegiate Association of Amateur Athletes in America (IC4A) and Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Outdoor Track and Field Championships held May 16-17 at Princeton University's Weaver Stadium.

DiNozzi, a senior, tied Cornell’s Mark Harbeck for sixth place with a vault of 15-feet, 7-inches. Brad Bowery of Brown won the event with a vault of 17-0. The top eight finishers were named to the All-East team and this is the third time DiNozzi has been so honored.

DiNozzi will compete at the NCAA regional meet to be held May 30-31 at George Mason University.

DiNozzi's sixth-place finish helped Delaware earn 2.5 points and place 45th in the team standings. Also competing for the Delaware men was senior Mike Sadowsky, who placed 19th in the 10,000 meters Friday night. He ran to a time of 31:37.33.

The Delaware women did not earn team points, however the 4 x 400-meter relay team of freshman Daniella Price, junior Tyechia Smith, junior Rachel Schultz and senior Erin Gemmill set a new school record of 3:53.79 as they finished in 17th place.

The Hens broke the school record in the event for the third time this season, surpassing the most recent mark of 3:54.24 set by Smith, Price, Gemmill and Kristen Frustillo set in April.

Also competing for the UD women was Christine Kowalchuk, who placed 15th in the javelin with a throw of 114 feet, 3 inches.
