Blue Hen baseball team to host Maryland April 29 |

11:00 a.m., April 28, 2003--The University of Delaware baseball team will try to snap a five-game losing streak when it hosts the University of Maryland in a nonconference game at 3 p.m., Tuesday, April 29, at Bob Hannah Stadium.
Maryland, a member of the Atlantic Coast Conference, is coming off a conference series victory over Duke University. The Terrapins are 16-26 on the season.
The Fightin Blue Hens will then travel to Temple University in Philadelphia for a game at 3:30 p.m., Wednesday, April 30, before heading to Hofstra University for a three-game Colonial Athletic Association series Friday through Sunday, May 2-4.
Host Delaware (14-28, 4-10 in CAA) dropped a three-game weekend series to Virginia Commonwealth University, losing the opener 8-2 Friday then dropping both ends of a doubleheader 5-4 and 5-2 Sunday.
VCU improved to 33-10 on the season and is in first place in the CAAs Colonial Division with a 14-3 record.
On Friday, VCU jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first inning and went on to secure the 8-2 victory. UDs second run came on a homer by Nick DiCarlo.
In game one Sunday, VCU went ahead 2-0 in the third. The Hens got a run back in the bottom half of the inning when senior shortstop Kris Dufner scored on a wild pitch.
Delaware went ahead 3-2 in the fourth when Dave Harden and Todd Davison scored on a bunt and a subsequent error on the throw. Dufner followed with an RBI single to give Delaware a 4-2 lead.
VCU came right back with three runs in the fifth, which stood up for a 5-4 win.
In the nightcap, UD junior centerfielder Steve Van Note crushed his seventh homer of the season to give Delaware a 1-0 lead in the second. Senior rightfielder Doug Eitelman singled home senior designated hitter Nick DeCarlo three batters later for a 2-0 advantage.
VCU tied the game 2-2 in the fifth and went ahead for good in the seventh
Delaware starter Mike Mihalik went the distance in game two, scattering 10 hits and striking out seven. Game one starter Jason Rogers also pitched a complete game, giving up nine hits and five runs with four strikeouts.
