Senior Andrea Vargas on 'The Weakest Link' Nov. 16

2:05 p.m., Nov. 13, 2002--UD senior Andrea Vargas is set to appear on the TV game show “The Weakest Link,” which is tentatively scheduled for airing at 1:30 a.m., early Saturday morning, Nov. 16, on KYW-TV Channel 3.

Senior Andrea Vargas (second from left) with “The Weakest Link” host George Gray (center) and the competition.

Vargas, who flew to Los Angeles in October to tape the show, called it “the best experience ever.” Her hotel was next to Universal City in Los Angeles so she spent her first day there. The next day, the students from Kent State, Jackson State (Mississippi), Boston and Youngstown State universities and the University of Nevada-Reno assembled.

“These weren’t the schools I’d been told would compete,” Vargas said, “and actually there were eight college students for six slots, which meant we had to try out again.”

Each student was assigned a hair stylist and a makeup person. The whole process of preparing for and taping the final show took all day and into the evening.

“The host, George Gray, was great—very funny and made us relax,” Vargas said.

After the show was taped, the students were taken out for food and fun to the Hard Rock Café.

Vargas flew home early the next morning, but keeps in touch with her new friends, the other contestants on the show, via e-mail.
