Gemmill sets record in 800-meter run
 

University of Delaware track and field athletes picked up 10 first place finishes, including eight by the Blue Hen women's team, at the Towson University Open on Saturday, May 11, at Towson University Stadium.

Highlighting the first place finishes for the UD women was freshman Erin Gemmill, who won the 800 meters in a school record time of 2:13.84, breaking the previous Blue Hen record of 2:14.86 by Sarah Cowles in 1994.

Other first place finishes for the UD women were Laura Dietrich in the triple jump (35-5 3/4), Liesje Cardillo in the long jump (18-6), Kristen Salvatore (in the 200 meters (26.15), Sarah Bochet in the 400 meter hurdles (1:04.13) and Kristen Frustillo in the 400 meters (59.22).

Winning titles for the Delaware men were Mike Yost in the discus (140-4) and Matt Swierzbinski in the 5,000 meters (15:25.84).
