Hen swimming teams win national recognition
 

Aug. 2, 2002--The 2001-02 University of Delaware men's and women's swimming and diving teams have been recognized for their academic accomplishments by the College Swimming Coaches Association of America.

Both Blue Hen teams earned Academic All-America notice for placing among the top 40 NCAA Division I programs in the nation in terms of team grade point average for the 2002 spring semester.

The Blue Hen women's team posted a team grade point average of 3.426 during the 2002 spring semester to rank seventh nationally and earn "Superior" recognition from the CSCAA. The team improved from a 14th place standing for the 2001 fall semester. For the 2002 spring semester, 23 of the 28 team members posted a grade point average of 3.0 or higher.

The Blue Hen men's team posted a team grade point average of 2.859 to rank 34th among all NCAA Division I teams in the nation. Of the 25 team members, 14 posted a grade point index of 3.0 or higher.

The top teams in the nation were the St. Francis College women's team, which posted a 3.534 GPA for the spring semester, and the University of Evansville men's team, which had a team GPA of 3.355.

The Blue Hens are led by head coach John Hayman and diving coach John Schuster.
