Milton H. Stetson
 

July 3, 2002—Milton H. Stetson, a member of the University of Delaware biological sciences faculty since 1973, died June 27, 2002, while on sabbatical leave at the University of Hawaii.

At UD, Dr. Stetson had served as professor, associate director of graduate programs and research and director of the School of Life and Health Sciences. In 1998, he became an affiliate professor at the Hawaii Institute of Marine Biology at Kaneohe.

Dr. Stetson authored, coauthored or edited nearly 200 scientific publications in various research areas, including vertebrate reproduction, neuroendocrinology, circadian physiology, comparative endocrinology, pineal physiology and vertebrate photoperiodism. In addition, he trained 13 graduate students, 10 of whom received the Ph.D.

He served on many committees, refereed articles for several scientific journals and refereed grants for the National Science Foundation, the National Institutes of Health, the U.S. Department of Agriculture and the Environmental Protection Agency.

A graduate of Central Connecticut University in New Britain, he received his master’s and doctoral degrees from the University of Washington in Seattle. He was a postdoctoral fellow at the University of Texas at Austin.

A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m., Saturday, July 6, at the R.T. Foard & Jones Funeral Home, 122 West Main St., Newark, where friends may call from 7-9 p.m., Friday, July 5. Burial will be in White Clay Creek Cemetary. In lieu of flowers, the family requests gifts in his memory be made to the Milton H. Stetson Memorial Scholarship Fund, in care of the funeral home.
