UD field hockey team falls to Lafayette
 

Oct. 16, 2002--Megan Monahan scored at the 96:04 mark of the second overtime period to complete Lafayette College's comeback and defeat the University of Delaware field hockey team 3-2 in overtime Tuesday night, Oct. 15, at Fred Rullo Stadium.

The Blue Hens (6-8) jumped out to a 2-0 lead on a first-half penalty stroke goal by senior Kim Wagaman and a goal by sophomore Jessi Balmer.

Lafayette rallied with two goals in the final 15 minutes of action to send the game into overtime. Lafayette’s Melissa Farrand cut the deficit to 2-1 with a goal at the 57:23 mark and the Leopards tied the game with just under two minutes left in regulation time on a goal by Meredith Hahn at 68:39.

UD sophomore Erica LaBar, who assisted on the Blue Hens’ second goal, posted six shots on the night. She now leads Delaware with 22 points (7 goals, 8 assists).

UD senior goalkeeper Stephanie Judefind made seven saves in the loss, while Lafayette goalkeeper Casey Devlin made 10 saves.

Delaware will return to action on Friday, Oct. 18. The Hens will travel to Virginia to take on Colonial Athletic Association rival James Madison at 7 p.m.
