Engineering Week activities announced

The University of Delaware’s College of Engineering will mark National Engineering Week, a nationwide event designed to provide the engineering profession an opportunity to celebrate its achievements and to share its knowledge with young people in the community, with a variety of activities Feb. 18-23.

On Monday, Feb. 18, “Women in Engineering Night” will be held from 7-9 p.m. in Room 106 of the Center for Composite Materials, Academy Street.

On Tuesday, Feb. 19, students and professors will discuss the U.S. Department of Energy “Solar Decathlon” project in a press conference from 11 a.m. to noon in Room 106 of the Center for Composite Materials. The team is designing and building a solar-powered house.

Also that day, a workshop on writing a technical resume will be held from 4-5 p.m. in Room 205 of Gore Hall, and an academic bowl competition will be held from 8-10 p.m. in Room 102-103 Colburn Lab, Academy Street.

University senior design presentations will highlight a dinner meeting to be held at 6:30 p.m., Feb. 19, in Clayton Hall on the Laird Campus, Route 896, north of Newark. For reservations, send e-mail to keefe@me.udel.edu.

On Wednesday, Feb. 20, the Order of the Engineer ring ceremony will be held at 6:30 p.m. in Mitchell Hall, South College Avenue. At this formal ceremony, students will be inducted into the fellowship of engineers trained in science and technology and dedicated to the teaching, administration and practice of their profession.

On Thursday, Feb. 21, the fourth annual Engineering and Technology Jobs Fair will be held from 1-5 p.m. in the Trabant University Center.

The 2002 National Engineers Week dinner will be held at 5:30 p.m. at the Wyndham Hotel. For ticket reservations, send e-mail to [araymond@udel.edu].

Also Thursday, a wallyball tournament will be held from 6-10 p.m. in the Pearson Hall gymnasium.

On Friday, Feb. 22, an Engineering Carnival will be held from noon-4 p.m. in the Pearson Hall gymnasium, Academy Street.

The College of Engineering banquet will be held from 7-9 p.m. in Clayton Hall. For reservations, send e-mail to [araymond@udel.edu].

On Saturday, Feb. 23, there will be a TEAMS competition for invited high school students from 8 a.m.-3 p.m. in Smith Hall.
