UD's Jamin Elliott selected in NFL draft

University of Delaware wide receiver Jamin Elliott was selected by the Chicago Bears in the sixth round of the National Football League draft on Sunday.

The 6-foot, 181-pound Elliott, a business major from Portsmouth, Va., was the 203rd pick overall in the NFL draft.

During the 2001 season, Elliott caught 30 passes for 514 yards to lead the Fightin' Blue Hens. He had three touchdowns.

He is number three all-time for receptions in a season, with 58 catches during the 2000 season, and number three all-time for total receptions, with 158.

According to the Chicago Tribune, it is possible the Bears will provide Elliott an opportunity to return kicks. For the Hens last year, Elliott returned five kicks for 92 yards.

Elliott went to the Bears just behind Georgia Southern running back Adrian Peterson, whom he faced in the NCAA playoffs in 2000 and again during the regular season in 2001. Peterson was the 199th pick overall.
