Rapper Busta Rhymes to perform April 21

Rapper Busta Rhymes will visit the University of Delaware for a concert at 8 p.m., Sunday, April 21, at the Bob Carpenter Sports/Convocation Center.

Tickets cost $20 for UD students with ID card and $25 for the general public, and are available at University box offices at The Bob and at the Trabant University Center. Call 831-4012.

Also, tickets are available by phone through Ticketmaster, 302-984-2000, and at Ticketmaster outlets. A convenience charge may apply.

Busta Rhymes began rapping at age 12 in his native Brooklyn and in the late 1980s formed Leaders of the New School, a hip-hop group whose first album, “Future Without a Past,” earned critical praise and popular support.

Rhymes gained wide notice for his work on A Tribe Called Quest’s 1991 classic “Scenario.” He released his first solo album, “The Coming,” in 1996, and it went multi-platinum.

In 1997, his album “Disaster Strikes” made its debut a No. 3 on the charts and sold more than 1.5 million copies. The following year, the album “Extinction Level Event” featured the hit “Gimme Some More.”

Rhymes, who has appeared in such movies as “Who’s the Man,” “Strapped” and “Higher Learning,” owns his own record company, Flipmode Entertainment.

Rhymes has been touring to promote his album “Genesis.”
