Awards for business excellence
presented during Homecoming festivities

Three alumni were honored with the Business and Economics Alumni Award of Excellence for their personal achievements and excellence in their careers during Homecoming festivities at the University of Delaware on Saturday, Oct. 13.

This year’s recipients were Robert J. Christian, BE’73M; Dennis G. Sheehy, AS’79, BE’84M, and Robert L. Siegfried Jr., BE’81.

Christian, who received his master’s degree in economics at UD, is senior vice president and chief investment officer in the Asset Management Department at Wilmington Trust Co. and a member of the Senior Management Team. He has been employed there since 1996. Before joining Wilmington Trust, he held several management positions at PNC Bank over the course of 20 years. He also was employed at the Federal Reserve Bank of Philadelphia, where he was a research analyst. Christian also serves on the Board of Trustees for LaSalle University and the Peninsula United Methodist House.

He and his wife, Betty, live in Quakertown, Pa., and have three children, Amanda, Melanie and Rob.

Sheehy, who received a bachelor’s degree in music theory and an MBA from UD. He currently is the East Region managing partner for Deloitte Consulting’s eTechnology Integration Practice, which specializes in planning, designing and implementing business solutions using advanced technology. Before joining Deloitte, Sheehy was an associate partner with Andersen Consulting. Sheehy also is currently involved in the MBA Mentoring program and sits on the College of Business and Economics’ new IT Advisory Council.

He was a founding member of one of the consulting industry’s first financial systems management practices, built and managed the industry’s first cross-competency/cross-industry solution center and recently created a very successful client alliance model with Deloitte Consulting.

Sheehy and his wife, Carole, live in Chadds Ford, Pa., with their two sons, Jack and Will.

Siegfried earned his bachelor’s degree in economics, with majors in accounting and economics. He is president and CEO of the Siegfried Group, LLP, a group which he established in 1988. Immediately after graduating from UD, he worked at Ernst & Young in Baltimore as an audit manager. He also was director of recruiting, entrepreneurial services and practical development.

Siegfried was named Small Business Person of the Year in 1999 by Delaware’s New Castle County Chamber of Commerce, and the Wilmington News Journal named the Siegfried Group as Delaware’s 2000 “Company to Watch” in the financial services business.

He is a member of the Delaware Society of CPAs, where he is a former vice president, treasurer council member and co-leader of the Practice Management Committee, as well as the American Institute of CPAs and Maryland Association of CPAs. He also serves on the Board of Directors and as president for CIENA Properties Inc., MultiWave Investment Inc. and Reserve at Chadds Ford Homeowners Association.

Siegfried and his wife, Kathy AS’85, live in Chadds Ford, Pa., with their three children, Robbie, Jacqueline and Steven.

The College of Business and Economics Alumni Association established the Alumni Award of Excellence in 1991. The criteria for the award include career achievement, contribution to the business field and the community and commitment to excellence, such as personal growth and continuous improvement, commitment to make a difference and business ethics.

Barbara Bates-Diskin, a member of the College of Business and Economics Alumni Association, presented the awards.
