UD Marching Band gets new look

When the UD Marching Band marches into Delaware stadium next fall, it will have an exciting new look with specially designed, blue, gold and white uniforms.

“I’m ecstatic,” band director Heidi Sarver said. “A group of us, including assistant director James Ancona, visual coordinator Donald Jenness and band members, had ideas about what we wanted and worked with the De Moulin Co. in Illinois to design contemporary, and yet traditional uniforms, that truly represent UD.”

The foundation color of the new uniforms is navy blue, combined with royal blue and gold, with white accenting the front of the jackets. A diagonal sash across the chest is attached to a blue and gold cape to complete the look. The UD logo is featured on the upper left chest of the jacket, and the word “Hens” is embroidered on the sleeve and the back of the navy cloth hats, which can be topped with either blue or white plumes.

The color guard also will have new gold uniforms.

An added bonus is quilted raincoats with hoods, with UD on the coats and hoods. “This is a first,” Sarver said. “Now students can wear these in inclement weather and have protection against rain or freezing cold.

“The UD Marching Band has grown and developed a reputation as one of the region’s outstanding marching bands. The new uniforms reflect the band’s many accomplishments and contributions as representatives of UD,” Sarver said.
