Gay historian to visit campus Nov. 4

Gay marketing historian and journalist Michael Wilke will give a free, public presentation of his Commercial Closet, a documentary history of television advertisements with gay themes from around the world from the last quarter century, at 7:30 p.m., Sunday, Nov. 4 at the University of Delaware. The free, public talk will be held in the Bacchus Theatre of the Perkins Student Center, Academy Street, Newark.

The presentation features more than 80 commercials from a collection of more than 300. The oldest is a 1974 commercial featuring football star Joe Namath wearing and selling Beauty Mist Panty Hose.

Inculded in the Commercial Closet , a nonprofit education and journalism project, including several controversial spots that never made it on air. Wilke, the creator of the project provides critical commentary.
