Fall 1999
Dean's corner
While the College has many initiatives and accomplishments to share with you in this issue, we are greatly saddened as we report the untimely passing of Dean Dana J. Johnson, who died in February. As you will read in this issue of Dialog, her legacy is twofold--a greater strength and energy in the College of Business and Economics and a deeper appreciation for the College in the broader community.
Indeed, the College is stronger than ever. In a partnership with the state, we are implementing an information technology initiative that is resulting in exciting educational opportunities for current and future students. Our faculty have embraced their role in offering these new opportunities, while working hard to produce teaching, research and service of which the College is very proud.
We continue to attract excellent students who demonstrate both academic ability and impressive initiative. In this issue, you will read about student-run organizations and businesses, as well as outstanding young people whose accomplishments have been recognized in numerous ways.
Our alumni also continue to be sources of support and inspiration. We know you will enjoy reading about the distinguished recipients of the College Alumni Award of Excellence, alumni recently recognized as business leaders in the community and the very special spirit and generosity of Charles Pinto and his family.
As the University of Delaware approaches the end of the first year of the Campaign for Delaware, the College of Business and Economics is attracting support from many constituencies for further development of powerful learning opportunities and technological innovations in the College.
I thank you, our alumni and friends, for your interest and support as we move forward to new challenges and increasing success.
Sincerely,
Kenneth R. Biederman
Dean
