Class of 1949 inducted inot the Gold Guard at spring lunch

Members of the UD Class of 1949 celebrated their 50th reunion and were formally inducted into The Gold Guard at the Alumni Spring Reunion luncheon on Saturday, May 1.

More than 200 alumni from the graduating classes of 1931 through 1949 attended the event, which featured a morning reception at the President's house, lunch at the Trabant University Center, a tour of campus and tea in the newly renovated Warner Hall.

The Alumni Spring Reunion luncheon is a tradition that started six years ago to honor those who have achieved 50 years or more of alumni status. "This milestone connotes a maturity and wisdom from a variety of life experiences," said Robert Davis, vice president for development and alumni relations. "You can be proud of your own accomplishments and proud of your University and its accomplishments, too."

Davis, recognized alumni from the classes of 1934, 1939 and 1944, who were celebrating their 65th, 60th and 55th reunion years, respectively. He also presented gifts to those in attendence who had traveled the greatest distances. They included Jean Richards Drazek, CHEP '46, and Joseph Drazek, AS '43, of Coronado, Calif., Ruth Esche Shaw, CHEP '39, and William Shaw, AS '40, of Marietta, Ga., William Wise, EG '49, of Hilton Head, S.C., Howard Foster, AS '49, of Lyman, S.C., and Pete Fagan, AS '49, of Salisbury, N.C.
