Bearing up

Some days Marilee (Lee) Mullett, staff assistant in the University's Medical Scholars Program, can bearly see her desk thanks to the bags full of previously loved bears that students and staff bring her. As a member of Good Bears of the World, an international organization that makes it its mission to give teddy bears away to the sick and the lonely, Mullett is constantly on the look-out for pre-owned bears to spruce up and pass on. "Most of the time the bears just need a little shampoo or maybe a new bow," she says. The delight she sees on new owners' faces makes it all worthwhile, she says.
