Fall 1999
Alumni swing into action for charity
The second annual MBA Alumni Golf Tournament, which this year benefited the Lester W. Chadwick Endowed Scholarship Fund, was held May 1 at Chantilly Manor Country Club in Rising Sun, Md. The outing marked the first time the tournament supported a charity. Many local companies participated. The event, planned for more than four months, attracted more than 80 players, including current MBA students, alumni, undergraduates and other friends of the University. The participants competed in various categories, such as low score for a four-person scramble, longest drive and closest-to-the-pin contests. A putting contest, sponsored by The Siegfried Group, awarded the winner a free foursome at the Hartefeld National Golf Course in Avondale, Pa. Each participant received an Ashworth logo golf shirt, courtesy of Wilmington Trust Co.
Following the tournament, a pig roast and prize raffle raised additional money for the scholarship fund. The tournament title went to four accounting faculty--Sheldon Pollack, Joe Brady, Kent St. Pierre and Dale Buckmaster. Raffle prizes included a full set of Taylor Made Burner irons; Cobra, Adams and Taylor Made woods; and Izzo golf bags. By the day's end, more than $4,000 was raised for the scholarship fund.
