A seafood feast, a private tour of a presidential home and UD football games were popular alumni events held this summer and fall. More than 1,500 UD alumni and friends attended a dozen events around the U.S. Heres a glimpse at recent happenings:
- June 9The Annapolis (Md.) Area Alumni Club held its inaugural event at Carrols Creek Seafood Restaurant, with more than 100 alumni attending.
- June 25Jamy Kokinda, AS 93, Minnesota Alumni Club coordinator, hosted a reception at the Rock Bottom in Minneapolis.
- Aug. 3Laura Lyon Slaymaker, AS 89, Lancaster (Pa.) Alumni Club coordinator, arranged a reception and private tour of Wheatland, former home of President James Buchanan.
- Sept. 12 Members of the Philadelphia Alumni Club traveled to Villanova for a football match-up between the Fightin Blue Hens and the Wildcats. Attendees enjoyed a catered pregame reception before watching an exciting game that ended in an overtime loss by a field goal, 31-34.
- Sept. 23"And now," cried Max, "Let the wild rumpus start!" New Castle County (Del.) alumni and their families enjoyed two performances of Maurice Sendaks Where the Wild Things Are, presented by the American Repertory Ballet. The event was sponsored by UDs Performing Arts Junior Series.
- Oct. 17More than 80 devoted UD football fans traveled to Youngstown State University to watch the Fightin Blue Hens take on the Penguins, defeating them by a score of 30 to 20.
- Oct. 22Moving away from sporting venues to a strictly social meeting place, the Philadelphia Alumni Club gathered at the Irish Pub in Philadelphia. Young alumni from the area saw old friends and met some new ones over pizza and nachos. Maggie Gerdes, AS 96, and Dana Lenzoni, AS 90, coordinated the event.
- Oct. 24The First State Mentor Corps and the UD senior class sponsored a volunteer initiative as part of Make a Difference Day. Participants spent the afternoon cleaning and beautifying a seven-mile hiking trail at Lums Pond State Park in Middletown, Del.
- Nov. 1Baltimore area alumni and friends headed back to Camden Yards, but this time for football. After a pregame brunch at the Sheraton Inner Harbor Hotel, guests enjoyed watching the Baltimore Ravens vs. Jacksonville Jaguars at NFL Stadium at Camden Yards.
- Nov. 14A pre-game reception was hosted by the Richmond (Va.) Area Alumni Club prior to the UD vs. University of Richmond game, where the Hens fell to the Spiders 45-6.
- Nov. 21The East Coast Florida Alumni Club watched the UD vs. James Madison University football game via satellite at Playoffs Sports Grill in Ft. Lauderdale. Arrangements were made by Cyndy Houck, BE 77.
- Dec. 2Mark Crafts, BE 85, coordinator, hosted a reception for the San Francisco Alumni Club at E&O Trading Co. in San Francisco.
