Alumni Club events

The New Castle County and Cecil County alumni clubs hosted a gathering at O'Friel's in Wilmington on Oct. 2. A University of Delaware T-shirt was won by Dan Fink, AS '88, in a business card drawing.

Before the UD vs. Boston University football game, Oct. 4, the University of Delaware Office of Alumni and University Relations sponsored a pregame mixer at the Sheraton Needham Hotel. The mixer included a brunch with a special appearance by UD cheerleaders. More than 60 alumni, family and friends attended.

The Boston Area Alumni Club hosted an event Oct. 4. at Champion's. A UD T-shirt was won by Mingsheng Gao, EG '95M, in a business card drawing.

On Oct. 18, prior to the James Madison vs. University of Delaware football game, a pregame mixer was held on the campus of James Madison University. UD cheerleaders performed several cheers for the more than 125 alumni, family and friends who attended.

Another pregame mixer was held Oct. 25 before the UD vs. University of Massachusetts football game on the UMass campus. The mixer was attended by more than 90 alumni, family and friends.

The Philadelphia Area Alumni Club gathered around a hot pasta bar Nov. 13 at Club 34 off Pier 34 in Philadelphia's Penns Landing.

The Baltimore Area Alumni Club hosted a reception Nov. 16 at the DoubleTree Inn at the Colonnade, followed by a Philadelphia Eagles vs. Baltimore Ravens football game. Beginning with the pregame reception at 10:30 a.m., the event drew more than 150 alumni, families and friends. A business card drawing was held for a free Delaware T-shirt, which was won by Susan Jacob, AS '88. Both Ravens and Eagles fans left the game satisfied after a 10-10 tie in overtime.

The New Castle County Alumni Club sponsored a sold-out performance of Babes in Toyland Nov. 16, with more than 200 alumni, family and friends attending the Theatreworks/USA performance. This musical adaptation of the classic film was part of the Performing Arts Junior Series on the Newark campus, and an exclusive backstage tour of Mitchell Hall for the special guests followed.

The Chicago Area Alumni Club hosted a reception on Nov. 24 that included a delicious variety of hot hors d'oeuvres. More than 30 UD alumni and friends attended.

The Washington, D.C., Area Alumni Club hosted a Toys for Tots holiday party Dec. 4 at LuLu's Cafe on 22nd Street, with 80 alumni and friends gathering. A business card drawing was held for free Delaware T-shirts and tickets to a Baltimore Ravens football game. Over 60 toys, including a YoUDee doll, were donated by participants to the Marine Corps Reserves' Toys for Tots program for disadvantaged children in the D.C. area.

The New York City and Northern New Jersey Alumni clubs jointly hosted a gathering on Dec. 11 in New York City. The event attracted a record-breaking crowd, with more than 160 alumni and friends mingling and catching up on old times. New York City area club coordinator Jessica Cincotta says she was "amazed and thrilled with the response" and is looking forward to organizing many more successful New York City/New Jersey events.

On Dec. 21, alumni from Kent and Sussex counties in Delaware celebrated the season with a holiday buffet luncheon followed by a live performance of Dickens' A Christmas Carol. The luncheon was held at the Milford Senior Center, with a special guest appearance by Santa Claus. Sponsored by Bayhealth Medical Center, the performance at Milford High School was by American Family Theatre.
