University of Delaware Office of Public Relations The Messenger Vol. 5, No. 4/1996 Olympic torch relay rests on campus Rain didn't dampen the enthusiasm of spectators who greeted torch bearer Antonio "Tony" Bowe on June 19 as he carried the Olympic Torch in Newark on its way to the Atlanta Summer Games, which were held in July. Robinson Hall was selected as the lunch location for runners and escorts, and a brief ceremoney there included remarks by President David P. Roselle and Newark Mayor Ron Gardner. A Special Olympics athlete who competes in power lifting and the 1994 Delaware Special Olympics athlete of the year, Bowe won three gold medals at the 1995 Special Olympics World Games.
