University of Delaware Office of Public Relations The Messenger Vol. 5, No. 4/1996 A Hensational Three Years! Since being unveiled on Saturday, Sept. 4, 1993, at the Delaware vs. Lehigh football game in Delaware Stadium, YoUDee, the Fightin' Blue Hen mascot, has made more than 600 appearances, scratching out a reputation as one of the best college mascots in the country. Since hatching, YoUDee has built up quite a scrapbook. The formidable fowl has met the Phillie Phanatic; been highlighted on ESPN and ESPN2; received a van for traveling in style; performed with a host of professional mascots at the USAir Arena in Washington, D.C.; placed 11th and 13th nationally among collegiate mascots; taught summer mascot camps throughout the western U.S.; appeared in numerous parades; visited at area hospitals; danced at the CoreStates Spectrum; appeared at conferences in Atlanta, Baltimore, New York and Philadelphia; met country stars Wynonna Judd and Blackhawk; entertained youngsters and their families at the Ronald McDonald House; and more. A fixture in the campus community, YoUDee is among a handful of collegiate mascots being considered for the mascot olympics for children's make a wish foundation in Orlando. Through these appearances, YoUDee has helped raise spirit and funds in support of student scholarships.
