Messenger - Vol. 4, No. 2, Page 7 1995 New director named Carole Marks, associate professor of sociology, has been appointed director of the Black American Studies Program, succeeding James Newton, who has become a senior fellow in the College of Urban Affairs and Public Policy. Marks, who has published on the black underclass and the work of black women, is the author of a 1989 book, Farewell, We're Good and Gone: The Great Black Migration.
