Blue Hen standout to steer new academy

Delaware's all-time leader in career home runs has returned to
the campus to coordinate a new baseball throwing academy and to serve
as assistant baseball coach. Jim Sherman, Delaware '82, will supervise
the activities of the new academy, which will be directed by head
baseball coach Bob Hannah. The academy is intended to help young
athletes, ages 10 to 18, learn proper throwing mechanics and to
rehabilitate injured throwing arms.
Sherman, who as an outfielder led Delaware to three East Coast
Conference titles, was a career .347 hitter. He was a 14th-round draft
pick by the Houston Astros and played six seasons in the minors,
before retiring to become baseball coach and athletics director at
Wilmington College in Delaware. There, he led the Wilmington Wildcats
to six district titles, two regional championships and two trips to
the NAIA world series, in 1992 and 1994.
