Messenger - Vol. 4, No. 1, Page 4 1994 New course offered in community development A new certificate course in community development was launched in Wilmington, Del., this fall by the College of Urban Affairs and Public Policy. The semester-long course, which is held in Neighborhood House Inc., a 67-year-old community organization in Wilmington, features lectures by 35 professionals in the field, drawn from nearby states and Washington, D.C. According to coordinator Raheemah Jabbar-Bey of the college's Center for Community Development, participants will learn how to establish an efficient and locally controlled enterprise that can support profitable ventures and effective social programs. Participants also will be able to assess community needs, evaluate community development enterprises, learn how to organize the community, understand and generate financial reports, decide how to finance development projects and negotiate with public and private funding agencies. The course will be offered again next fall.
