Mid-career options

Three new degree programs at the University are available as
mid-career options for practicing nurses, managers and school
administrators.
A family nurse practitioner option was approved within the master of
science degree in nursing, effective in September. Nurse practitioners
provide much of the routine health care for families, often practicing in
association with a physician. The option requires 47 credits and can be
completed in four semesters.
Designed to prepare students for leadership positions in government or
the non-profit sector, the master of public administration (MPA) degree is
aimed at individuals with at least five years of work experience. As a
mid-career option, the new MPA degree option accelerates the normal time
for part-time completion by requiring courses in the summer and winter
sessions, in addition to traditional fall and spring semesters.
The three-year MPA program offered by the College of Urban Affairs and
Public Policy has seven required courses, an area of specialization and a
research paper for a total of 42 credits. Areas of specialization include
environmental and energy management; fiscal and resource management;
international development policy and administration; human resource
management; and state and local management.
Finally, a complete master of education in educational leadership
program is now available in southern Delaware. Designed to satisfy state
certification requirements for various administrative positions, the
program includes specialization in school administration, vocational
administration and adult and continuing education. Courses will primarily
be held in the Higher Education Building, located in Georgetown.
