Library Associates hear about diplomatic art

Alumni and friends of the University are invited to join the
University of Delaware Library Associates, a non-profit organization that
expands and enriches the research collections of the library.
Founded in 1958, the organization supports the library through gifts
from individual members, fund raising and donations of significant books.
Membership in the organization begins at $25, and activities include
invitations to an annual dinner and lecture, exhibition openings and other
book-related events. Scheduled for April 27, this year's dinner speaker is
Clement E. Conger, who will give a one-hour illustrated slide lecture on
"The History and Formation of the Collection of the Diplomatic Reception
Rooms" at the U.S. Department of State. Conger curated the fine and
decorative arts belonging to the state department and co-authored a book on
the collection with Wayne Craven, H.F. du Pont Winterthur Professor of Art
History at the University.
Members also receive a newsletter and Collections, an occasional
journal based on research using the rare book, manuscript and special
collections of the University's Hugh M. Morris Library.
For further information, contact Julia Hamm, assistant to the director
of libraries, at (302) 831-2231.
