Messenger - Vol. 2, No. 1, Page 31 Fall 1992 Alumni briefs 1992 Outstanding Alumni honored For meritious service to the University, M. Jane Wiley Richter, Delaware '59, and Robert V.A. Harra Jr., Delaware '71, were named 1992 Outstanding Alumni-the unanimous choices of the Alumni Association Awards Committee. A Dover, Del., resident, Richter is a member of the University of Delaware Frear Commission and coordinator of the Kent County (Delaware) alumni chapter. A past member of the Alumni Board of Directors and its nominating committee, she serves on the Advisory Committee of the Volunteer Admissions Support Team (VAST). After beginning her studies at the University of Delaware in the 1950s, she re-enrolled in 1979 and graduated with high honors three years later with a bachelor's degree in individual and family studies. Owner and director of The Little School Inc., Richter is a trustee of the Delaware Foundation for Retarded Children Inc. and a board member of Kent General Hospital, Second National Bank, the Delaware Agricultural Museum and the Kent County Vocational and Technical School District. Harra is immediate past president of the Alumni Association. A member of the Bob Carpenter Center Capital Campaign steering committee, the Wilmington resident previously was the Alumni Board's vice president and treasurer, and he served on the Committee of Advisers in the University's presidential search in 1988-89. Promoted last spring to executive vice president of Wilmington Trust Co. Inc., Harra is president of the Delaware Bankers Association and board president of the University & Whist Club of Wilmington Inc. He also serves on the boards of the Delaware Community Investment Corp., the National Conference of Christians and Jews (Delaware region), Jobs for Delaware Graduates and the Salvation Army (past chairman), and he sits on the finance committee of the Neighborhood House Inc. Harra received a bachelor's degree in accounting.
