Planned Giving; Honoring Harold Wolfe Horsey

In recognition of his father's love of his alma mater, Delaware
Supreme Court Justice Henry R. Horsey of Dover established a charitable
remainder unitrust that will provide scholarship aid to southern Delaware
students from Dover, Laurel and the Lewes-Rehoboth area.
The trust honors Harold Wolfe Horsey, who was born in 1893 in Laurel.
Moving to Dover when he was 14, Harold Horsey graduated from Dover High
School in 1913 and entered Delaware College, now the University of
Delaware, as an arts and science major. Editor-in-chief of 'The Review' and
a member of the Athenaean Literary Society, Mr. Horsey played both baseball
and basketball and was a member of the Sigma Nu fraternity. After his 1917
graduation, he joined the state's banking commission in 1919 and led that
industry through the stock market crash of 1929 and the Depression that
followed. President of the Union National Bank in Wilmington until its
merger with the Wilmington Trust Co. in 1943, Harold Horsey rose to become
senior vice president of the commercial banking department before retiring
in 1958. Exhibiting his strong interest in the University, Horsey served on
Delaware's Board of Trustees from 1926-1974. He received the University of
Delaware Merit Award in 1982.
In making this gift in honor of his father, Justice Horsey continues
a long tradition of family ties to the University. His daughter, Alexandra
Therese, is a 1983 graduate, and his maternal grandparents, Henry and Mabel
L. Ridgely, each served on the Board of Trustees.
Under a unitrust, the donor receives income from the trust for his
lifetime. The principal is received by the institution upon the donor's
Professionals at the University are available to work with you in
